His ancestors came down from Kashmir to the rich plains below. Kaul had been his family name; this changed to Kaul – Nehru, and in later years Kaul was dropped and they became simply Nehrus. Jawaharlal Nehru was the only son of his prosperous parents. His two sisters were much younger to Jawaharlal Nehru.
